Before applying the Polycrylic Finish, the surface must be dry and free of any wax, grease, polish, or old finishes in poor condition. Sand the surface to a smooth, uniform finish, and remove any dust with a damp cloth. If desired, apply a Minwax Water Based Wood Stain or Minwax Wood Finish stain to the bare wood surfaces, following the label directions. Wait at least 24 hours before applying the Polycrylic Finish over the Minwax Wood Finish Stain. The Polycrylic Finish can also be applied directly to bare wood.

To apply the Polycrylic Finish, stir the product well before and regularly during use, but do not shake it. Apply a thin coat with a high-quality synthetic bristle brush, following the grain of the wood. Let the first coat dry for at least 2 hours, then sand with very fine sandpaper (220 grit) to ensure an even finish and proper adhesion of additional coats. Remove all dust before applying the second coat. For additional coats, repeat the sanding and cleaning process before applying. Three coats are recommended for the best results.
